Springwater Elementary - General Information

Springwater Environmental Sciences School is a public charter school located within the Oregon City School District. Springwater has grown each year and has now reached a comprehensive K-8 program. Like all Oregon public schools, there is no tuition assessed, and transportation options are available to ensure access to all successful applicants. Applications will be taken in February, see below for Open House dates.

Mission: To integrate the sciences throughout the curriculum in a nurturing environment created by a high level of parent and community involvement.

Structure: Springwater features a small school environment, small class sizes (currently 22) and staff who are intimately involved in curriculum design. Springwater's K-8 structure (one class per grade) helps foster relationships between students, creating a greater sense of community and a broader perspective.

Location: The school is situated on a rural 5-acre setting in what used to be the Logan Elementary School on Springwater Road in Clackamas County. Located near the Clear Creek watershed, and surrounded by agricultural and Metro lands, the setting is ideal for our focus on environmental sciences. Bus service is provided from several hubs in Oregon City.

Friday Field Study: Springwater operates four days a week, with two Fridays a month reserved for on-site and off-site field study. These field studies are designed by Springwater teachers to ensure alignment with the curriculum, and are assisted by trained parent volunteers.

Enrollment: Open House information sessions are held in February. Attendance at one of these meetings is required and applications will be made available only at the Open Houses. At the Open Houses, participants have an opportunity to meet Springwater staff, board members, and parents, learn about the school, take a tour of the building, and ask questions.

Lottery: Following the Open Houses, all submitted applications are entered into the annual lottery. The lottery determines which kindergarten applicants will be offered admission for the following school year, and establishes wait lists at all grades.
