Books Sets Available For Checkout from Library Services
Grade 4 Informational Text Units:
1. Earthquakes has two books, ‘Surviving Earthquakes’ by Michael Burgan and ‘Earthquakes’ by Ker Than.
2. Animals is explored through ‘Saving the Ghost of the Mountain: An Expedition Among Snow Leopards in Mongolia’ by Sy Montgomery.
Grade 4 Literature Units:
1. Mythology has one book, ‘Zeus: King of the Gods, God of Sky and Storms by Teri Temple.
2. Poetry has two books, ‘Bringing the Rain to Kapiti Plain’ by Verna Aardema and ‘The Desert is Theirs’ by Byrd Baylor.
Library Services has purchased classroom sets of nonfiction books to help teachers implement the CCSS standards for informational text at their grade level. There are 45 copies of each title available. Books are unique to a specified grade level.

In the grade level files are lessons, practice assessments, and skill checks that have been identified (most by ODE) as being closely aligned to the application of standards through instruction. These are the lessons being referred to in the English Language Arts (ELA) Common Core State Standards (CCSS) curriculum maps.

Once downloaded, double click to expand the zip file. Once expanded you will have a Folder.
Move the folder to your documents folder.
Blending of current ODE Standards and Common Core State Standards (CCSS)
Students will still be assessed on the current standards at the same time we are beginning to implement the English Language Arts (ELA) Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Therefore, we need to include both sets of standards in our literacy instruction. Below are lessons to support insruction in the OAKS strands.
Read to Perform a Task
The Common Curriculum Goal for Read to Perform a Task is: find, understand, and use specific information in a variety of texts across the subjects areas to perform a task. These might include a) locating information, b) interpreting charts, diagrams, and graphs, and c) following instructions.
